We are Not of This World
Iron Sharpens Iron...
Proverbs 27:17 tells us, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." But in all honesty, many days I feel more like a piece of wood.
Then, every once in a while, a brother comes along, you start talking about Jesus, and the sparks start to fly!
Enter Tony Valant from One Mission Society in Greenwood IN. We spent three great hours together today talking about missions, missionaries, synergies between One Mission Society and One Village Group, and what God is doing in our lives personally.✝️
God Focused Conversation
Meeting Tony for the first time, we had to get the pleasantries out of the way, but then we were off and running.
Stories of the miracles God has done in each of our lives. Stories of the miracles God is doing in our ministries. Discussing how we can better witness to others during this period of striff in America that is pitting Christian against Christian.🥺
After two hours of sparks flying, Tony said something that caused us both to pause and return to earth. He said "We are challenged to live differently because we are not of this world."
Not of This World
For two hours, we had been somewhere else - not of this world - somewhere else. Deeply engrossed in the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
And I think that is the way it is supposed to be. The world God promises us is seldom the world we live in. We chose something else.
As CS Lewis famously said:
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea.
But every once in a while a brother comes along, the sparks start to fly, and we get to enjoy the holiday at sea, if only for an hour or two.
It was a good afternoon!
