You Can Make A Missionary's Christmas a Little Brighter!

Distance & Isolation

Christmas is a season marked by remembrance—of Christ’s coming, of family traditions, and of loved ones near and far.

For missionaries serving overseas, however, Christmas can magnify the distance and isolation they feel from home.

While we gather with friends and family and post FB and Instagram pics of the latest Church activities, most missionaries spend the holidays navigating unfamiliar cultures, languages, and rhythms of life.

Remembering missionaries during the Christmas season through prayer and intentional communication is a great way to lift the spirits of some of God's sharpest tools.

New Missionaries 🚶🏽‍♂️‍➡️🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️🚶🏼‍➡️

For new missionaries especially, the isolation can be intense. They are learning a new culture, adjusting to ministry expectations, and often facing language barriers— all while being far from familiar support systems.

A simple email, text message, or short video call can be a powerful reminder that they are not alone, that their calling is seen and appreciated, and that their sacrifices matter.

These small communications may not seem like much to us Stateside, but many arrive as answers to prayer at just the right moment.

Old Hands

Missionaries who have been on the field longer face different, but equally real, challenges.

Over time, discouragement can creep in as spiritual opposition, fatigue, and unexpected roadblocks continually rise up. 🚫

The enemy is persistent in trying to hinder the work God is doing, and ongoing encouragement from supporters back home is vital to the health of a missionary's mind and soul.

Sadly, many missionaries experience long stretches—weeks or even months—without hearing from friends or supporters, which can deepen feelings of loneliness and weariness - especially during the Christmas Season.🌲

Even Paul 🥺

Even the apostle Paul experienced these feeling of loneliness and isolation in his service as a missionary. In second Timothy, Paul ask Timothy to:

Do your best to come to me quickly, 10 for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me... 16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them." (2 Timothy 4:9-16)

While Paul - and our Missionaries today - continue(d) to serve God in spite of myriad obstacles, the question must be ask - "why don't we communicate with them"?

We all connect with multiple people every day, using multiple communications platforms. So why not reach out to your missionary today?
