Rebalancing Your "Mission's Investment Portfolio"

Smart Investing - The Great Commission

The Great Commission was Jesus' last command before leaving Earth:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)

So how are Christians doing on a global scale when it comes to fulfilling this command to go to ALL nations?

In a 2021 article by David Platt (click here to read the original), we find some hard numbers.

First, there are still A LOT of unreached people and places on our planet 🌏

Second, the majority of Church's and Individual's Mission's Investment Portfolios are amazingly unbalanced:

This doesn’t mean the funding going to the 5 billion people of the world who live in places already 'reached' by the Gospel is being wasted. But it does mean that mission's investment in 'unreached' areas of the world is amazingly underfunded.

Not Getting any Better - Also concerning is the fact that the demographics are going the wrong direction when it comes to reaching the 'unreached' people groups. David Platt puts it this way:

“The number of unreached people is higher now than ever before. It will continue to increase until Christians and churches decide to change how we use our resources…” David Platt

Smart Investing💲

In the investment world, having a diversified portfolio is seen as smart business!

Shouldn't we also make sure we are being smart by diversifying our Mission's Portfolio?

After all, once again, Jesus didn't say to limit our Good News sharing to our local neighborhood, country, or those who look like us. He said:

...go and make disciples of ALL nations...

All means ALL.

"Check the Box"

No one wants to be a "Check the Box" Christian. But maybe Mission's Portfolio Diversification is one area of Christianity we should encourage everyone to do a "Check the Boxes" assessment of.

Are you investing in reaching:

☑ Your neighbors?

☑ Your city?

☑ Your Country?

☑ The unreached in Christian countries?

☑ The unreached in non-Christian countries?

If you find out you are out of balance in any of these areas, don't just move some money around to get into a healthy balance, use this as an opportunity to invest more!

If heaven is real (and it is!), having a smart, diversified portfolio is something we want to get right!!!
